Gennaro Cuocolo

Gennaro Cuocolo was an Italian artist born in Naples in 1916. After an initial academic approach at the free school of nude drawing in Naples, he began working independently with tireless determination, following his instincts and distancing himself from schools and movements. His restless thirst for experience led him to travel extensively—Milan, France, Spain, and Switzerland. These places inspired his painting, which, while rooted in reality and Neapolitan tradition, gradually evolved along a path that took it far from its realist beginnings, almost to the opposite shore, bordering on the informal. His artistic journey was marked by a constant search for his own creative space and expressive language, which led Cuocolo to tackle subjects often lacking in overt allure, transforming them into captivating works of art.
