Luigi Volpi

Volpi, who had taught painting techniques at the Cova in Milan, primarily dedicated himself to still lifes, creating repetitions of subjects and compositions, excelling in the care and attention to detail, in his pursuit of a faithful emulation of reality. His art expresses a search for perfection, a call to the silence of things and nature.
Volpi’s art spans from interiors with figures, to landscapes, to still lifes. In his meticulous details, Volpi allows a cold mental or philosophical detachment to emerge, placing it in an ambiguous zone between shadow and substance. The depiction, whatever it may be, almost always carries a quiet and meditative tone. It goes beyond the particular quality of the atmospheres, aiming to hide excessive descriptiveness and to suggest opportunities for deeper exploration.
Portraits, places, landscapes, still lifes, interiors, not only unfold their visual language, but also make a statement about their relationship with the rest of our world. One does not struggle to grasp the figurative quality, but the images primarily invite us into a poetic, conceptual, and substantial dimension.
