Renovate, modernize, make accessible — these are the magic words spreading everywhere today, especially in so-called “underprivileged” areas. But behind these seemingly harmless terms often lies an assault on our historical and cultural heritage.
At the end of the 19th century, Florence was gutted in the name of modernity: centuries of history erased to create a “functional” city center, at the cost of losing an irreplaceable legacy. Today, history seems to be repeating itself. Politicians and businessmen continue to toy with the urban fabric, disregarding the memory of places and the value of culture.

This artwork is part of the New Perspectives of Surrealism collection, the new exhibition project by Maurizio Vinanti. In this series, the artist abandons traditional perspective to explore a personal and original visual language, in which each painting marks a stage in a journey of transformation, exploration, and expressive freedom.
